Bailout.
This year has been in economic turmoil. The Bush Administration's Treasury Secretary Paulson decided to combat it with a Bailout.
This bailout carries a significant amount of debt to be paid by later generations. It was first imposed for the "bad debts" such as loans and mortgages, transformed into socialism by buying considerable amounts of shares in large banks and now has the possibility to temporarily amend the downfall of the bankrupt auto industry.
As they say, "Money makes the world go 'round." It also makes a simple word, such as bailout, the word of 2008.
Not bad! Now you have me thinking. I had a different word in mind. I'll have to give you a double for the word and a star for being the first one to respond; just don't tell, you know who.
My word of the year has to be RECESSION!
It pretty much sums up what our economy and our country as a whole and what it has gone through this whole year. If this isnt the word i dont what it would be.
Happy Holidays and Seasons Grettings to you Rod!
I would have to say the word of the year has to be bailout. The whole world had huge crashes in the stock markets and America was hit hard. the chinese and american government had to give huge bailouts to major companies. how can anyone forget this, millionis of jobs were lost resulting in the drastic change in many peoples lives. The auto industry is also another obvious reason.
Another reason for my own opinion is the fact that i think the detroit lions are also looking for a bailout. haha.
I'm gonna go with Change.
It really was the year of wanting change. We just have to see if the upcoming year will bring that to us.
And by "you know who" do you mean, Christine?
The "R" word? Not bad. Merry Christmas to all of you and a Happy New Year!
I can't believe all of you are responding to the "big word" question.
Phil says "bailout" too. But Meagan says "change" is the big word. But what about Doe's "R" word? The winner gets a "star" on the next assignment. Don't tell Christina?
Peace be with you.
It's almost Christmas, enjoy the snow and all that goes with it.
I think we should have a phrase of the year which would be "down in history" since Obama will be our first black president. Its a huge thing and we should all be proud. Someday we will be in the history books that all the little kids read!
