How About Some Good O' Pork?
President-elect Obama said "the days of just pork coming out of Congress as a strategy" are over. What conditions do you think the auto industry should meet in order to receive a loan from the government? What should President Bush do?
Obama also said that he doesnt see why we would put money into something (the auto industry) that hasnt shown any signs of trying to help themselves out of their slump. Hopefully Bush agrees and decides to make them work for it instead of just giving them what they want.
Many of my family members work either directly or indirectly for the auto industry. These workers are hurting and the CEOs are starting to se this majorly. I think that they are willing to do whatever it takes. I think though that the government should start having more control about what cars are produced.
everyone understands the problems with the auto industry and so does the president obviously. the auto ceos need to just file for bankruptcy cut their losses and start over. many people will loose their jobs but they would loose them anyway. they need to look long term and start a long process of rebuilding. the president cant really do much about this and obama has alot on his plate when he takes office.
The auto industry should not receive a loan, what-so-ever. The old adage, "You make the bed you sleep in" applies to this situation perfectly.
In a truly capitalist economy, everyone gets a fair chance to succeed and to fail. In that case, the auto companies deserve to go bankrupt.
The American Auto Industry conducted business poorly and needs to suffer the consequences. Isn't publicly admitting insufficient funds to survive BANKRUPTCY? In that case file a Chapter 11 and restructure. Do not be rewarded for bad business by a "bailout" and be given the privileges of restructuring with a "Car Czar"! That is wrong.
For those supporting a "bailout", hear me out. -- Nearly the same amounts of jobs will be lost in the restructuring process of either a Chapter 11 or a Car Czar. There will always be plenty of jobs out there for those who face lay-offs(although not necessarily in Michigan). No matter what, remaining auto workers' wages and benefits will stay or change to however the unions see fit. With or without the Bailout, these companies will still exist. Circuit City filed for a Chapter 11 recently. Merry Christmas; they're still in business selling their products. Those of you for the bailout obviously fear a "collapse", or are filled with ignorant insecurities.
No matter what happens, the Big 3 will not disappear. The day bankruptcy is filed, all hell won't break loose. Life will go on, people will still do what they do, as will the Big 3.
