Now what?
The longest presidential season in U.S. history - 21 months! Now what? What will you remember most about this election? Will this turn out to be a "permanent" realignment between red and blue states?
Now what? That is a good question. How long will the public's "honeymoon" with Obama last? Will it be shorter than the world's support? Who knows? However, let us hope that "change" has finally arrived because President Obama will not have it easy. The current state of the economy will bring many challenges to our president-elect. Yet for now, we can only wait for the lame-duck to depart to Texas.
As for memorable moments of the 21 month campaign, I cannot help but relish in John McCain's version of a classic Beach Boys song. "Bomb-Bomb-Bomb, Bomb-Bomb, Iran." Also, seeing Hillary Clinton cry in New Hampshire finally presented her as human. Who would have thought it?
I don't know what. I guess we will just have to hope and pray that the world doesn't "test" Obama as Biden had promised. If the world does want to "test" him, God help them. Im not a big fan of Obama, but he going to be our president now, and even if I don't agree with him, I will support him and respect him. When we disagree, as Hannity put it, "We will respectfully disagree". We are still the USA. As long as we stay the USA then we should support the leader of the USA, as long as he doesnt do anything stupid. Im sure he will but Im not going into the next four years already disliking him just because. I say Trust but Verify.
But anyway, I say the most memorable moment for me in this election was the Obama anthem. Yes it is offensive to Obamaniacs, but you have to admit, it was FUNNY. Heres the URL if you want to watch. Oh sorry, the video is no longer available. Hmm, I wonder why......
Well for now theres really nothing for Obama to do except wait for January. After that he just has to attack the current system in areas he promised change. I'm sure it won't be overnight change for the most part and I'm sure everything he does will be heavily scrutinized. Hopefully it will all work out over time.
Whether the realignments are permanent depends on how successful Obama is in the next four years. Most people were unhappy with Bush and the Republican party. It was enough to make them switch to voting Democrat. Try as he might, I don't think McCain could entirely shake the "4 more years of the same" idea. But if Obama and the Democrats fails, the states that are usually Republican will go right back to the way they were. And if he does fail, who can blame them?
What we will have to do now is wait until Jan. 20th. Hopefully after that Obama will be gung ho from the start and be drastic about changes right away. That will be the onlyway to make a difference in things. What I will remeber most probably is when right after 11:00 when they announced that Obama had won and they McCain gave an awesome consessional speech. He was so nice which almost made me feel bad for not liking him. I have no idea if the states will remain there new color like Sam said it will depend what Obama does and if they like his decisions or not.
Now we wait for January, when Obama is officially sworn into office, along with his new cabinet.
As for a "permanent" realignment, only time will tell, but I will make a prediction. I predict that if the young voters turnout as they did in meaningful concentrated areas such as in this election, this realignment will last for quite a while.
