"You lie!"

The House of Representatives formally sanctioned Congressman Joe Wilson for his disruption during the President's joint session. And former President Jimmy Carter commented that Wilson's outburst is based on racism.

What do you think?

Who's really telling the truth?

Whoo the blog is back!!!!!
I think they did the right thing. It was very rude and unprofessional for him to shout that out. Did you see Pelosi's face? I'm not sure if it was based on racism or not, but I do think what the House did was right. I mean I know there is freedom of speech, but it was just rude how he did it.

Yes it was rude for him to speack out like that. I don't really know if a discipline is necessary though. As for the racism comment. BULL CRAP! We have a Black president, ok thats great! Just because I don't like him or I disagree with him, does that make me racist?

I think that what he did was out of hand but not racial. I believe that his views on the black race influenced him as well as building frustration which led him to do what he did; however, what he said should not be considered racial. I believe that the house did what they needed to do to assure that this will not happen again.

Why did he say that he was being racist? If i do recall, he didn't really mention anything about race, or color. Although I think that he should have held his tongue, it wasn't racist. It was uncalled for and he made it too public, but he never hinted towards racism at all. Whether Obama is racist or not, i don't know, Jimmy Carter had no place to call him racist, he had no reason to do so in the middle of a speech.

I'm quite honestly tired of the race factor being brought onto the surface. I do not believe this was a racist comment at all. Okay, so what. The president is black? Lately it appears that whenever a white person makes a comment the race card is brought into play. What about the racism the blacks have against the whites??? He simply did not agree with what Obama said. Of course Joe Wilson's comment was unprofessional, and represents a level of disrespect towards the presidency. He already apologized once. Life moves on.

I think that what he did was not appropriate at the time he did it. Let's be honest, he is a representative of the people, isn't he just doing his job. His comment definitely wasn't racist, if a black representative would have said that about a white representative, would it be racism? I am guessing no. Racism goes both ways people... Just because Obama is black doesn't mean that every criticism is a jest to at his race.

Hey Mr. Rod! It's me, Grace Francken! From way back when...
My Italian prof is making us do a blog to communicate with the Italian Students at Loyola's Rome campus.
I've got an opinion on this post though...
We discussed this in my Intro to Law class. I'm also taking a Psychology class that focuses on Stereotypes and Prejudice...aka Racism.
I don't think this was a racist statement. It had nothing to do with Obama's race, but rather with his policies. In my Intro to Law class, our prof explained to us that Wilson definitely broke protocol by doing something as unprecedented as calling the president out in his speech. The main wrong that was done was that it showed a lack of confidence in the president from the Congress. From the perspective of my Psychology class, I might say this is implicit racism. The Senator may not think of himself as a racist and deny it, but his experiences and latent feelings actually might reveal that he is a little biased against blacks. That's all speculative though, there's no way to tell.
I hope you see this blog! Because I really had no idea how to do it, until my Italian prof showed us how!
